The European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT) is the umbrella organization under which all European transplant professionals are organised and addressed. ESOT cooperates with the national transplant organizations to structure and streamline all transplant activities in Europe. Expert knowledge on the respective organs is represented and promoted through a number of Organ Expert Sections within ESOT. One of these sections focuses on ethical, psychosocial and legal issues in donation and transplantation in ESOT and is called ELPAT. ESOT provides education, skills training and support to its members through an extensive educational and basic science programme and encourages excellence through an award and grant programme. Furthermore, ESOT brings together the European and international transplant professionals at its bi-annual Congress organized in European cities. The Council of ESOT consists of: the president, immediate past-president, secretary, treasurer and eight other Councillors. ESOT also has an Executive Office (professional congress organiser) which is based in Padova, Italy.
